How to Meet Your New Neighbors

Not sure how to meet your new neighbors after a move? Atlanta Peach Movers is here to help! We understand how challenging it can be to put yourself out there, especially in a new community. Here are a few of our favorite ways to get acquainted with the neighborhood.

A Housewarming Gift or Dessert

A classic way to introduce yourself to the neighbors is with a small gift or treat. A succulent or house plant is always nice, and it can help you start up a conversation. Baked goods such as homemade brownies or cookies are a nice gesture, but this can be a risky option. The receiving party could have allergies that you may not know of. While this is a good thought, it may be a safer option to go with the house plant. Even just a nice pot or some flowers is a fine option. At the end of it all, you just want to show that you are interested in getting to know everyone as your time there progresses.

Spend Time Outdoors

The more time you spend outside of your new home, the more likely you are to run into others who live in the neighborhood. Walking around your street is an excellent way to meet people who are also out for a walk, or even just in their front yard. Make sure you say hello! We understand it can be hard to talk to people when you are the one approaching them, but a simple introduction can go a long way!

Consider starting a garden. This is a great way to spend more time outdoors, and it is also a wonderful conversation starter. Propping up a chair in your front yard and reading a book could help you get some vitamin D, as well as present yourself to those who live around you. The easiest way to meet people is by putting yourself out there, and that starts with leaving your home!

Throw a Welcome Party

While this may be the boldest option yet, it could have the highest success rate. Invite all of your neighbors to a gathering at your house. Whether it be for snacks, dinner, or just to sit around and chat. A BBQ or cookout is also a great option. This presents a couple of hours where neighbors may be shuffling in and out, and you will be able to meet multiple people throughout the night. Consider bringing out some outdoor games or board games for the evening! Families may show up to your party. If you have children setting up a playdate is a wonderful way to meet other parents in the area. As long as you are putting yourself out there and showing your neighbors that you are interested in meeting everyone, they will put in the effort as well.

Local Memberships and Events

Partaking in local memberships and events presents multiple opportunities to meet those who live in your community. Looking into close-by gyms, libraries, and more can get you out into the local area. Again, the more you leave your home the higher the chance of meeting people. You can even ask your neighbors for any local places they may recommend getting involved in. Farmers markets, community meetings, and getting involved in the local schools are all great ways to work your way into the community and meet your new neighbors.
