What NOT to Do When You’re Moving

#1: Do NOT Buy moving boxes

Stop wasting money on moving boxes. It is a a very unnecessary expense. There are lots of other means of carrying your items than purchasing boxes. By purchasing your boxes, you’re of often just left with a big old mess to take care of afterward. Instead, go to your local grocery store and see if they have any extra boxes in the produce department. Or, you can rent. Boxes from a moving company and just return them when you’re finished.

#2: Do NOT take multiple trips to your new house

A lot of us waste time transporting boxes and things to our new house. We think that by spreading out the move we are doing ourselves a favor, but we really aren’t. Multiple trips too often just give us extra stress over a longer period of time. Don’t move over a long period of time, worrying about taking several trips. Instead, just dedicate one entire day to your move. This will not only save you gas, but it will also save you time and energy.

One simple solution for taking fewer trips to your new house is to rent a large truck, van or trailer. This way you can fit everything you need into one vehicle. Which means, you will only vehicle to unload and worry about. Then, all you have to do is return it at the end of the day.

#3: Do NOT pack everything away nicely

Don’t make the mistake of packing EVERYTHING away. There are certain necessities that you are going to want to have access to the first 24 hours that you are in your house.Instead, carefully pack these items separately so that they don’t get lost in transit. Consider packing your coffee pot, breakfast foods, overnight necessities, clothes, laptops, phone chargers, etc, in a well labeled box and taking them to your new house separately.

Why would you carry all of those boxes if you don’t have to? Do yourself a favor and just hire a company who can do it all for you. By hiring professionals to do it for you, you take a major burden off of your family, friends and most importantly, yourself. You’ll be surprised at how little hiring movers will cost you and how big of a relief it will give you!
